Mathematics is one of the core subjects of the curriculum and is compulsory for all students from Year 7 to 11.

Our intent is to support our students in taking the next steps in their mathematical learning journey whilst also linking new knowledge to previously learnt topics by constantly embedding the recall and retention of already acquired skills. We are committed to numeracy through our number skills activities and regular class use of the IT suite which are two focal points of our learning journey for students in Years 7-11. Students are given opportunities to extend their mathematical learning through Key Stage 4 with additional qualifications, and Key Stage 5 where we offer both Maths and Further Maths A-Levels. We aim to overcome any barriers to learning including presenting concepts in a variety of ways, ensuring that students find methods that bring them success and confidence.

Our Key Stage 3 curriculum is based on schemes from White Rose Maths, which allows for a smooth transition from Primary School for the majority of our students. We believe that this structure gives our students a solid foundation to work with as they progress to Key Stage 4 and their preparation for GCSE.

We follow the Edexcel GCSE Mathematics Key Stage 4 (KS4) curriculum which is structured to build on the foundations of Key Stage 3 and prepare students for further study or careers involving mathematical skills. It is divided into Higher and Foundation tiers, allowing for differentiated learning paths based on students’ abilities. The curriculum covers a broad range of mathematical domains.

You will find below an overview of our Mathematics curriculum and a presentation highlighting the many careers opened up by studying the subject.
